What do new Application Tracking System (ATS) advancements mean for you?

Application Tracking Systems ATS are becoming smarter!

We’re still not quite at ‘the bot will see you now’ but ATS is moving away from being just a huge filing cabinet to now suggesting potential candidates to the hiring manager for open roles. In April2024, Workday bought Hired Score to add an AI element to their ATS. 

What does that mean for you?

Traditionally an ATS:

• Stores your information – CV, cover letter and other data and tracks your application through hiring process.
• Automates time-consuming tasks such as manually screening applicants, scheduling interviews, and sending out notifications.
• Allows employers to search by skill set or key duties of a role (keywords) 

Now, Workday plan to do all the above but with the addition of:

• Integrating HiredScore to use AI to help hiring managers shortlist and grade (score!) you based on how good a fit you are for the role.
• Using AI to flag initially unsuccessful candidates as a match for a new role entered on the system based on keywords or how close your skills match those listed in job description

3 things you can do now to get your CV on the right side of the ATS

We have always told our clients about the importance of  ensuring their CV contains keywords matching the job description.  This is even more important now. 

1. Tailor your CV to each role you are applying to – one size DOES NOT fit all 

2. Examine the exact language used in the job description, e.g. if the company uses “Customer” in the job spec but your CV uses “Client”, change it!

3.  While design elements make look great – eg tables, boxes or photos. They can confuse ATS – Keep the design simple.
