How I Finally Cracked Interview Success (and why interview training was something I didn’t know I needed)
When my manager first suggested I contact Hilt for some interview preparation ahead of an upcoming promotion, I’ll admit — I was a bit sceptical.
I’d already been to a few interviews and thought I just needed more experience. I told them, “I know I haven’t been performing well, I just hoped that if I kept doing them, I’d eventually get ONE of the promotions.”
Sound familiar? That was me, frustrated and confused, wondering what I was missing.
What the Hilt Interview Preparation Session was really like
From the start, the team at Hilt helped me focus my preparation in a way I’d never done before. Instead of wasting time guessing what might come up, I got a worksheet of questions targeted to the specific role and guides to help me prepare efficiently and effectively.
Here’s what we worked on:
- Creating a great first impression by perfecting my answer to that dreaded “Tell me about yourself” question.
- Identifying the best examples and stories to showcase my strengths.
- Practising my answers out loud with people who actually understand what interviewers want to hear.
- Learning simple, effective techniques to handle nerves, deal with mind blanks, and end the interview on a strong note.
Most importantly, they helped me find something I didn’t even realise I’d lost: self-belief.
The Outcome
After my session, I went into the interview feeling calm, confident and clear about what I wanted to say. When it was over, I actually called Hilt straight away and said, “I did it! I managed to explain exactly what I would bring to the role. Even if I don’t get offered it, I’m thrilled I performed so well.”
And guess what?
I got the job.
